Jason Chang Takes Silver in Foil at KUEFI

Seoul, South Korea - Rising sophomore Jason Chang already had a strong freshman season to his name after leading the men's foil team with 44 wins in 2012. Now, after a hectic few days in South Korea, he can add a runner-up finish in the foil competition of the Korea-USA Elite Fencing Invitational to his list of achievements. Missing out on a gold medal by a single touch in overtime, Chang's finish tied for the highest by an American male, which included competitors from schools such as Columbia, Notre Dame, Princeton and Stanford.

Chang was one of five Penn fencers to make the long trip to Seoul to compete in the event. Evan Prochniak was the next highest finisher with an eighth place showing in men's sabre while Clifford Fishler rounded out the men's side with a 20th place finish in epee. On the women's side, foilists Luona Wang and Sarah Parmacek came in 12th and 14th, respectively.

Now in its second year, the Korea-USA Elite Fencing Invitational was instituted to promote and develop fencing both in the United State and South Korea while introducing Korean culture to people from other countries. The event is open to all fencers currently attending a university in one of the two nations.
