With following purposes, Mr. Jimi Jung, President of Korea Collegiate Fencing Federation and International President of Stanford Fencing Association, started Korea-USA Elite Fencing Invitational back in 2011.

Operated by Lourus Athleta, KUEFI was held in Busan (2011), Incheon (2012) and Jeju (2013) and will mostly likely be held in Suwon in 2014.

Here is the part of Mr. Jimi Jung’s speech in 2011:
“We are here today for a strong cause: to promote the sport of fencing. Fencing has a long and historic tradition. Also, it inspires altruistic values through courtesy and virtue. It is unfortunate that not many people know the beauty of fencing.
Truth to be told, I started following fencing just three years ago. I had a chance to watch Stanford fencers’ bouts, and I was fascinated by great skills and strong passion. The experience made me a fan, and I regretted not knowing fencing sooner. What made me more regretful was that, including Stanford, many fencing programs and clubs had been underfunded in Korea and United States. Since then, I have been truly motivated to support fencing.

I have met many potential supporters last three years. Since they do not know the beauty of fencing, persuading them to support has not been easy. Therefore, I urge elite student athletes to demonstrate the beauty of fencing at the Invitational. I am sure people will be fascinated when they watch elite university fencers’ effort and passion. Fencing will gain more supporters through your excellent performance at the Invitational. Every year, the number of supporters will expand, and they will ultimately bring stability to your programs and clubs.”
